As we set foot in Vernazza, we were instantly captivated by its colorful buildings cascading down to the sparkling Mediterranean Sea.
This picturesque village in the Cinque Terre stole our hearts, and we can’t wait to share our unforgettable experiences with all you Lykkers!
A Glimpse of Vernazza
Vernazza is one of the five villages that make up the stunning Cinque Terre, famous for its dramatic coastal views, charming architecture, and vibrant culture. As we wandered through the narrow streets, we marveled at the pastel-colored houses and the breathtaking views of the cliffs that define this region. The atmosphere here is truly magical, with the sound of waves crashing and the scent of fresh basil wafting through the air.
One of the must-visit attractions is the Vernazza Harbor, where we spent many hours soaking in the sun and watching fishing boats come and go. The harbor is a perfect spot for photography, especially during golden hour when the light hits the colorful buildings just right. It’s open to visitors at any time, and best of all, it’s free!
Attractions and Experiences
Another highlight of our trip was hiking the Sentiero Azzurro, the famous Blue Trail that connects the five villages of Cinque Terre. The section from Vernazza to Monterosso al Mare offers stunning coastal views and takes about 1.5 hours to hike. The trail is typically open year-round, though it’s wise to check for any seasonal closures or conditions. There’s a small fee of €7 for access to the trails, which goes toward maintenance.
We also enjoyed visiting the Castello Doria, a historic castle perched high above the village. The castle is open to the public and has a modest entrance fee of €1. From its ancient walls, we were treated to panoramic views of Vernazza and the surrounding coastline—an experience we will never forget!
Practical Information for Your Visit
When planning your trip to Vernazza, it’s helpful to know that the village is quite small, making it easy to explore on foot. Wear comfortable shoes as the streets are cobblestoned and can be steep. The best time to visit is during the shoulder seasons of spring (April to June) and fall (September to October) when the weather is pleasant and crowds are thinner.
For those arriving by train, Vernazza is accessible via the Cinque Terre Express, which connects the five villages. A ticket typically costs around €4 and provides an easy way to explore the area. Keep in mind that parking is limited in the village, so public transport is highly recommended.

For a truly special experience, we recommend the Giovanni Rooms located just a short walk from the harbor. Prices start at around €150 per night, depending on the season, so it’s best to book in advance to secure your spot.
